Ecotourism
The Gambia, although only 70km across at its widest point, covers a wide range of wildlife habitats by virtue of the fact that the borders of the country follow the course of the mighty River Gambia.
Mangrove, coastal flats, freshwater riverbank, swamp forest, seasonal wetland, Guinea and Sudan savanna are easily explored by vehicle and boat.
The Gambia is home to over 500 species of birds and around half of these can be seen comfortably in a well planned two week itinerary.
Ecotourism
The Gambia offers an excellent introduction to West African birds and other wildlife, including Guinea Baboon, Patas Monkey and the noisy Red Colobus, the surprisingly elusive Hippopotamus, antelope such as Maxwell's Duiker and a range of reptiles from tiny lizards to the imposing Nile Crocodile. Add to that colourful butterflies, fragrant flowers and a tropical symphony of sound it is easy to see why many visitors return again and again.
Accommodation
The Gambia's well developed range of hotels and guest houses ensures that all tastes and budgets are catered for.
Whilst the majority of these are based in the coastal strip there are hotels, lodges and camps up-country where the eco-traveller can be close to nature and Gamban culture.
West African Tours
